[:en]The Canadian Council on Ecological Areas (CCEA) is pleased to present you with the Consultation Draft Version 1: <\/b>Protected Areas and Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures in Canada: A Guidebook for Their Identification and for the Application of IUCN Protected Area Categories<\/i>. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CCEA has developed this draft guidebook for Canada\u2019s unique setting with the help of many practitioners and experts from Canada\u2019s federal, provincial and territorial protected area and conservation agencies, international agencies, private land stewardship trusts, environmental non-government organizations, Indigenous communities and organizations, universities, and the scientific community.\u00a0 <\/span>The guidebook is based on the foundation of international guidance, definitions, criteria, resolutions, and best practices developed by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and further explained and interpreted for the Canadian context using the best science-based advice from the Canadian conservation community of practice.\u00a0 <\/span>Work leading to this revised guidebook began in 2010 and has benefitted from the participation of almost 100 individuals from just under 40 institutions of Canada\u2019s conservation community of practice.<\/p>\n

This guidebook is intended to serve as the Canadian interpretation of IUCN\u2019s 2008 Guidelines for Applying Protected Area Management Categories<\/i> and 2018 draft Guidelines for Recognising and Reporting Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures,<\/i> incorporating as well other supplementary IUCN guidance and recommendations. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The purpose of this review is to determine if the guidance and decision-support tools provided are understandable, clear and useful.\u00a0 <\/span>I invite you to review this draft using the annexed template.\u00a0 <\/span>Please submit your comments to CCEA: ccea.ccae@gmail.com<\/b>\u00a0using the subject line \u201cCCEA Guidebook Feedback<\/b>\u201d, as soon as convenient, and not later than August 1, 2018<\/b>.<\/p>\n
