CCEA-CCAE

The Canadian Council on Ecological Areas (CCEA) warmly invites Masters students in their first year of study to submit applications for the 2026 Stan Rowe Home Place Graduate Award by June 19, 2026. Please feel free to share this notice widely among your circles.

As outlined in the attached documents and the CCEA website (The Stan Rowe Home Place Graduate Award | CCEA-CCAE), the Stan Rowe Home Place Graduate Award is a scholarship dedicated to honour Dr. Stan Rowe’s memory and life’s work. Dr. Rowe, a founding member of CCEA, was a professor at the University of Saskatchewan who inspired many individuals to pursue a career in ecology. The award is presented by the CCEA to Masters student projects with an emphasis on ecosystem or landscape-based approaches to selecting, establishing, or managing protected ecological areas in Canada.

The Stan Rowe Award includes a cash award of $2,000 and other benefits. Applicants should submit (as a single PDF):

  • A cover letter, outlining their research and its relationship to CCEA’s Mission and/or Strategic Framework (2020-2030 Strategic Framework | CCEA-CCAE);
  • A research proposal, no more than 1,500 words (organized under four headings: Introduction, Proposed Methods, Expected Contributions, and Literature Cited);
  • A letter of reference from their supervising professor; and
  • A current resume.

Applications can be sent to awards@ccea-ccae.org and will be assessed by the Awards Committee of the CCEA. The successful applicant will be advised by July 6, 2026.

The winner is requested to notify the CCEA upon the successful completion of their thesis and share the abstract, and to notify the CCEA of the first journal publication based upon this thesis work so that the information can be posted on the CCEA website.

On behalf of the CCEA, thank you for sharing this information. We look forward to receiving these applications from first-year Masters students and wish good luck to all the applicants.
