For efficiently fostering the conservation of ecological areas through education, stewardship programs, and partnerships, and for their leadership in promoting land conservation in Dinàgà Wek’èhodì.
In presenting the award to the Elders, a dedication was read by Lillith Brook, Manager of Conservation Planning for the GNWT Environment and Natural Resources, to the Dinàgà Wek’èhodì Elders Working Group:
For the knowledge shared and inspiration created, we honour the meaningful guidance you have provided in the pursuit of long-term protection for Dinàgà Wek’èhodì – a land of legend, teaching, learning, and living; a landscape of cultural narrative vital to the defining of the Tłı̨chǫ and Métis communities; and an important piece of the conservation network of the Northwest Territories.
The Awards Banquet was held in conjunction with the Canadian Council on Ecological Areas (CCEA) National Workshop, in Yellowknife from October 24-27, 2016. Results of the workshop will be described in a workshop report and may lead to the identification of new CCEA projects or working groups. More information is available on the CCEA website: http://www.ccea.org
